The history of Conte Rosso

The Hostel

Our hostel overlooks the Conte Rosso square, the very heart of medieval Avigliana. The square is framed by buildings featuring beautiful terracotta decorations, the town hall, the characteristic arcades and the 14th century well.

Casa Conte Rosso, a palace originally known as Casa Boccaccini, was used by financial businesses and housed the branch office of the Turin bank Cassa di Risparmio di Torino up to the mid-20th century.

In the 1960s, it was turned into a vocational school for accountants and surveyors, a branch of the Sommeiller high school in Turin first, then of the Buniva high school in Pinerolo. I

n the 1980s, it became the seat of the Santa Cecilia Orchestra and of the Avigliana Lakes Natural Park offices.

At the turn of the last century, after the town authorities was able to secure and carry out Piedmont Region-funded restoration work aimed at preserving the original architectural style, Casa Conte Rosso became a holiday home.
